How To Exercise At Home
In today’s hectic society, it’s not always convenient to pump iron or hit the treadmill at the gym. No gym? No problem! Believe it or not, plenty of fitness experts advise people to work out at home as much as the gym, as this way it’s more likely fitness will be adopted as a lifestyle rather than a chore.
We’re here to provide some top tips on making fitness a lifestyle in the comfort of your own home, as well as sprinkling in some home gym gifts if you’re interested in treating yourself.
Build an effective home workout plan
Most effective home workout fitness plans contain five key components, all of which you can do in, or just outside, your home. Sticking to a home workout regime can be difficult, but with a little planning and effort, it’s attainable for most. To maintain focus and stay on track, why not invest in a handy home workout planner?
Warmup
Your warmup can be something as simple as an easy walk outside or performing a set of star jumps in your living room! Go easy on yourself during the warmup though; the goal is to get limber and warm up your muscles, not get into the full workout right away.
Nevertheless, if a light jog or star jumps aren’t cutting it, try adding some slightly more demanding exercises, such as push-ups and squats, into your routine. These types of bodyweight movements are very effective at building endurance and flexibility, while they also strengthen joints and help you to build a strong physical foundation.
Home aerobic workout
Aerobic workouts focus on increasing the heart rate, but they don’t need to be too strenuous; you just need to get your breathing going. Achieve this by picking up the pace you set during your warmup. The beauty of home aerobic workouts is that you can perform them with minimal equipment.
Skipping is a fantastic start, but don’t sweat it if you don’t have a rope. Simply running up and down the stairs or performing burpees (squat thrusts than end with a jump) are quick, effective methods. Alternatively, if you live close to a park, a gentle run or a couple of cycling laps provide an ideal aerobic workout.
As you pick up the pace, make sure you stay hydrated with one of our personalised water bottles. We have a massive selection for the whole family, and you can personalise the bottle with a message of your choosing.
Home strength training
This is the core aspect of any strength-focused home workout plan. You’ll be putting stress on your muscles and making them stronger, and what’s great about resistance training is that you can get it done in the smallest of spaces.
If you don’t have home gym equipment, think squats, push-ups, crunches – exercises that test your limits. If you do have dumbbells, resistance bands, or other strength-training equipment at home, use them to complement your bodyweight exercises.
This part of your home workout is sure to make you sweat, so be sure to keep a towel close by. Our personalised hand towels allow you to customise yours with your name, so it won’t get mixed up with the tea towels!
Flexibility-boosting stretches
Increase your flexibility and overall wellbeing with some floor stretches or yoga poses. Aside from the physical benefits, yoga goes hand in hand with mindfulness, which can reduce stress and improve your mood. There’s a wealth of online yoga resources that you can take advantage of while working out at home, including full beginner plans to get you started on your path to flexibility.
If you’re new to yoga, why not make it more fun with a personalised yoga mat? Or for the seasoned yogis, create a more calming ambience with a
Cooldown
The cooldown generally mirrors the warmup, as low-level cardiovascular work restores the heart rate to a resting state. If you’re too tired to star jumps and push-ups, try some shoulder rolls and a light stretching until you restore your regular breathing rate.
